The ice has broken - literally and metaphorically. As Prague's riverboats return for the season, a new "Paddle & Pint" tour proves Czechs have perfected the art of combining recreation with intoxication. The concept is simple: kayak from Vyšehrad to Charles Bridge, stopping at three floating pubs where the beer is cold and the bathroom is...the river.
Local outfitter Vodák v Pohodě ("Chill Paddler") has mapped a route past Prague's quirkiest waterfront sights: the graffiti-covered Lennon Wall, the hidden nude beach at Žluté lázně, and the mysterious "Dancing House basement wave machine" that only activates in April. "It's about balance," says guide Martin Kovařík, demonstrating how to steer with one hand while holding a tankard with the other. "Like our entire national history."
New this year are the "Pirate Taxis" - stand-up paddleboard taxis that will deliver you (and your abandoned kayak) home after one too many Kozels.
